What Requires Document Shredding?

What Requires Document Shredding?

Today, we’ll be taking some time to tell you which documents need document shredding around your business.

All businesses have files they have to manage, and there will be one question that eventually needs consideration: do you shred them or not? With so many documents that have to be managed all of the time, it’s not always easy to know which ones should be kept, and which ones can be destroyed. Without shredding the right documents, however, data breaches can happen, and this can seriously harm your business. That’s why, today, we’ll be taking some time to tell you which documents need document shredding around your business.

Old Invoices

All businesses benefit from having invoices because they are used to help people get paid. If you aren’t shredding these invoices, though, you leave yourself vulnerable to a data breach. The last thing you’ll want to tell a client is that their most confidential information has been compromised because document shredding didn’t get done.

Credit Card and Bank Statements

While many businesses know the dangers of not shredding these documents, we still feel it’s necessary to emphasize the importance of disposing of these files properly. We advise you to stick to online statements whenever possible, and if you have paper documents, they need to be shredded properly the moment you don’t need them anymore.

CVs

You might not be thinking of CVs when you think of files that need document shredding, but you don’t want data thieves getting their hands on information such as addresses, phone numbers and names, especially when they’re neatly collected onto a single sheet of paper. After interviewing candidates, you likely won’t have a need for their CV anymore, so you can shred it at once so that others can’t use its information.

Old Pay Slips

Old pay slips have to be handled carefully. Just like with CVs, these documents carry a lot of personal information, like bank account numbers and addresses. It would be a great risk to leave such files in places where they can be misappropriated. Instead, you need to get document shredding done whenever you have old pay slips that are in need of disposing. This prevents data thieves from ever getting access to the information on them.
